Paje Beach, Zanzibar | Kitesurfing Capital of Tanzania

Paje is not the Zanzibar of honeymoon brochures. It is the Zanzibar of wind, water, and motion. On the southeast coast, Paje faces the Indian Ocean with a wide, shallow lagoon that stretches hundreds of metres at low tide. The trade winds arrive reliably from June to September and December to February, making this one of the best kitesurfing destinations in Africa. The beach itself is long, white, and backed by palm trees. At low tide, the lagoon becomes a mirror — ankle-deep water for hundreds of metres, perfect for beginners. At high tide, the reef edge breaks the waves, and the flat water inside becomes a playground for advanced riders. Paje is younger than Nungwi. It draws kitesurfers, backpackers, and a more active crowd. But it also has quiet corners boutique hotels, yoga retreats, and long stretches of empty sand away from the kite schools. AfriMemories Expedition treats Paje as a destination for travellers who want more than a sun lounger.
