Giraffes (abundant), zebras, buffalo, warthogs, elephants, bushbucks, blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and over 400 bird species including flamingos and the grey-crowned crane. Leopards are present but rarely seen. No lions, which makes walking safaris safe .
Game drives, walking safaris (the park's signature activity), canoe safaris on Momella Lakes, birdwatching, cycling, horse riding, and the Mount Meru trek (4-day climb to 4,566m) .
June to October (dry season) for the best wildlife viewing and clear views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. January and February are also excellent. The park is accessible year-round .
A half-day or full-day game drive is typical. The park is compact (552 km²), so you can see its highlights in 4-6 hours and return to Arusha the same day .
Yes. Because it's minutes from Arusha and the airport, it's commonly used as a first-day or last-day extension before or after Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara .

Arusha National Park surprised us. We expected a small park and got so much more. The canoe safari on Momella Lakes was peaceful and beautiful — flamingos everywhere. Our guide from AfriMemories knew every bird and every trail. Perfect half-day before our Serengeti safari.

Nice park, good for a half-day stopover. The walking safari is the main draw. Wildlife is less dramatic than Serengeti or Ngorongoro — no lions, no rhinos. But the scenery is beautiful and it's close to Arusha. AfriMemories made the logistics easy. Three stars for the park, five for the operator.
