Matemwe women have farmed seaweed for generations. At low tide, you can wade out to the farms, learn how seaweed is tied to stakes and harvested, and even make organic soap from it .

Matemwe is lovely if you want peace and diving. If you want nightlife or swimming all day, go to Nungwi. The tide changes everything twice a day. The village is charming but very quiet. AfriMemories made the logistics easy and got us to Mnemba for the best snorkelling.

Coté d' lvoire

We stayed five nights and could have stayed longer. Matemwe is peaceful, the people are warm, and the diving is exceptional. AfriMemories put us in a boutique lodge right on the beach. Watching the women harvest seaweed at low tide, then eating fresh fish at Garden Bob — that's the real Zanzibar.
